With Cedar City booked, we are forced to find the next logical place to stop. My mom is tired and we need to land somewhere soon.
We pull up Google maps and decide to stop in my new favorite city, Beaver, Utah.
There are only 1100 people living in Beaver. To put that in perspective, I have 1,049 facebook friends today.
Beaver is know as the birthplace of Butch Cassidy and in 2010, was awarded the title of best tasting drinking water in the United States. (It was alright).
Most of the businesses are closed (it's Sunday in Utah) and Main Street is pretty empty. There are a bunch of people on a picnic in the Veteran's Memorial Park. They are out there to watch the solar eclipse.
We get our rooms and my mom wants to take a nap. I take the car to do some exploring. There is a cloud of weird bugs in the air and they are dancing in the smokey sunlight escaping from the edges of the moon. It's the first beautiful sight that I've seen on this trip.
I stop by a diner that has clearly stopped in time. There's a googie sign out front and I can't wait to see what it looks like when it is lit up. I go to the counter and take pictures of the menu to send back to my mom to see if she is up for coming here.
I head back to the room and wait for "the kids" to wake up. Once they do, my mom isn't up for going out to dinner. Instead, they send me to Subway.
I bring back their food and they let me know that they don't need me for the rest of the night.
I have thoughts about going to the lone open bar in town but I'm wearing a Flash (the fastest man alive) T-Shirt and I have no urge to get my ass kicked tonight.
So I return to my room and do nothing but write because I am unable to sleep.
